The London Array

London Array is the world’s largest consented offshore wind farm. Rated at up to 1,000MW, it has the potential to produce enough energy to power up to a quarter of Greater London homes (750,000 homes) and displace the emissions of up to 1.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

The scheme is located around 20km from the Kent and Essex coasts in the outer Thames estuary. It will be connected by undersea cables to a new onshore substation at Cleve Hill, on the North Kent coast. From the substation, the electricity will be fed directly into the existing 400 kV National Grid transmission network. View a video of the construction of the substation

The first phase of construction is now underway and consists of 175 Siemens 3.6MW turbines with a total installed capacity of 630MW. Further development into phase two of the project is dependent on the assessment of environmental monitoring programmes and studies. View a 3D animation of London Array.

With the substantial growth of offshore wind within the Thames Estuary ongoing opportunities exist for local organisations that have the skills and expertise relevant to the offshore wind sector. This business directory helps wind farm developers to identify local companies who can provide products and services for use in the development, construction and operation of their projects, now and in the future.
